Platform development

What the first contractor platform needs to get right

The first test is a complete, understandable workflow: the right context, an accountable handoff and a clear record of what happened.

Product concept with synthetic information. Workflow and availability remain under review.

Make a connected piece of work useful

Contractor operations bring together requests, decisions, people and changing information. A screen for each topic is not enough if a handoff loses its context. The first product question is therefore a practical one: can someone understand the work in front of them, see what it depends on and pass it on with the information the next person needs? That is a more useful starting point than a long list of modules.

Prove the handoff before expanding it

A synthetic example starts with a work request, moves through a readiness review and reaches an assigned next action. A missing input should be visible at the review stage. When that input arrives, the record should explain what changed and who can proceed. This is a proposed workflow for discussion, not a description of a released feature. Its value would need to be established with the people carrying out the work.

Keep the boundaries understandable

A platform also needs to be clear about who can see and change each record. Helping a client review a delivery engagement is a different job from helping its employees run daily operations. Similar screens do not make those records or permissions interchangeable. The design needs deliberate boundaries, understandable review steps and a way to trace important changes. These are requirements to validate, not assurances that every future capability is already in place.

Describe progress at its actual stage

IAC's first contractor platform remains in development and does not yet have a final product name. A concept illustrates a direction; a working feature needs evidence; wider availability is a separate decision. Future journal entries should distinguish those stages and explain what was learned in each review. No general release date, complete module catalogue or shared sign-in experience is being promised here.

The next question

Which single contractor handoff should be demonstrated end to end before the product scope expands?
